Horrific things happen in our country every single day, but some true crime stories capture the public’s attention more than others because of the cruelty involved. And when children are victims, people really seem to gravitate toward the coverage.

And a recent case that has people talking is particularly terrible.

In May 2022, a 3-year-old autistic girl named Ivy Allen was reported missing by her parents in a 911 call where they claimed their daughter had wandered away from their home in Michigan City, Indiana.

Authorities launched a search for Ivy and she was later found unresponsive not far from their home in Lake Clare. First responders tried to save the girl’s life but it was too late.

Police launched an investigation that ultimately led to charges filed against Ivy’s parents, Andrew Allen, 35, and Breanne Smith, 33, on February 15, 2023.  The parents are charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in d**th.

Allen and Smith are being held in the LaPorte County Jail, and their bond was set at $100,000 cash for each of them.

Ivy’s obituary stated that the little girl “enjoyed dolls, dressing up, batman, dinosaurs, climbing, unicorns, mermaids, the movie Frozen, Disney and the color lavender.”

What a terrible story…
