If you’ve never seen the PBS show Finding Your Roots, you really need to check it out.

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. hosts the program and he delves into the ancestry of famous people so they can discover their roots. And the celebs who come onto the show are usually in for big surprises because, until someone takes the time to actually research their family history, they usually rely on stories from relatives…and those don’t always prove to be reliable.

Hollywood star Julia Roberts recently appeared on the show and it’s safe to say that she ended up being shocked by what Gates and his team on the TV show uncovered about her family history.

In fact, Roberts found out that she’s actually biologically related to a man named Henry McDonald Mitchell Jr., so she’s actually a member of the Mitchell family and not the Roberts family.

Roberts said, “On the one hand, I — truly — my mind is blown. And it is fascinating. And on the other hand, there’s part of me that, when I’m calmer, can still wrap my arms around the idea that my family is my family. And I do prefer the name Roberts!”

Check out the video of Roberts below from when she appeared on Finding Your Roots.
