Right now, our society is divided. A great debate is raging between two sides, neither of which has any interest in seeing each other’s point of view. And social media only makes things worse, allowing people to create an “echo chamber” of like-minded opinions that only makes them more stubborn. This issue may very well tear this country apart.

I’m referring, of course, to the debate over whether Crocs are Good or Bad.

And now there’s a new, even more contentious question for pro-Croc and anti-Croc people to fight over: what if Crocs were turned into another article of clothing? Would that be good, or bad? The articles of clothing in question are these Croc-inspired handbags.

The official name is the “Sol Tote,” and they’re available from clothing manufacturer Optari. They’re not an official Crocs product, but they’re very much what would happen if you turned a Croc shoe into a handbag. The bottom of the bag has a flat bottom with treads to keep it from slipping, just like a shoe:

The bags come in two sizes, small and large, and they retail for $19.99 to $24.99. Besides obviously being the height of fashion and good taste, their main selling point is their durability. As their website explains, “Our EVA material is super lightweight, plus super durable, washable and won’t fade in the sun.  Ever go to the beach and have your canvas bag fall over?  Our product stands up!  Sturdy and your best choice for the pool or beach.”

Another fun thing about the Sol Tote is that it’s customizable. Optari says the bag’s material “holds paint well,” so you can add all kinds of fun designs to your bag. You can also attach one of several “Fobbz” charms to the bag’s holes. That’s fun for both the bag’s owner, and her Dad who’s holding her bag while she tries on clothes in the Old Navy dressing room.

But as with words like “religion” or “Justin Bieber,” the word “Crocs” itself evokes strong negative feelings in some people. Crocs are one of the most widely hated brands out there, so when people heard there was a Croc-like handbag available, they weren’t having it.

On the other hand, reviews on Amazon suggest that the people who actually own a Sol Tote love it, for the reasons stated above–it’s durable, it’s great for the pool or the beach, and kids love how colorful they are.

It looks like the Great Crocs Debate won’t be settled any time soon. At least nobody made a handbag out of an actual Croc, though, right?

Oh, wait. Pizzaslime did exactly that:

Oh no. The Croc Civil War is definitely going to happen now. If you need me, I’ll be hiding in my bunker.
