We hear a lot of stories about how people who are lucky enough to win the lottery run into a whole lot of trouble in their lives after hitting the jackpot.
And a Scottish man had a story that rivals any crazy lottery tale out there.
Colin Weir of North Ayrshire, Scotland won a $257.6 million EuroMillions jackpot in 2011 and decided that he was going to live it up as much as he could.
Weir spent an amazing $50 million in 8 years from 2011 to 2019. He splurged on fancy cars, race horses, and he even bought a 55% share of the Partick Thistle Football Club in Glasgow. He also bought a $6 million house and spent millions more to renovate it.
But after years of spending wildly, Weir’s life took another trajectory. He divorced his wife in 2018 and she took most of his money after they split up.
Sadly, Colin Weir passed away in 2019 at the age of 72 from sepsis.
In the 8 years between when he won the lottery and when he passed away, Weir spent an average of $131,900 per week, or about $50 million.
Yes, that is completely insane…
