Pets! We love them, and they love us. One of the ways they show us their love is by bringing us a gift, like one of their favorite toys, or a dead mouse. In fact, there are a lot of reasons besides love why a pet might bring you a gift–with dogs, it’s an instinct, it’s a way of showing their approval, or it’s a stress-reliever. With cats, it can be a subtle hint that you need to step your hunting game up.
Just like people, some animals are great gift givers, while others…well, they give it a shot. Today via Bored Panda, we’ve got a selection of the oddest things pets have brought their owners.
So the next time your cat brings you a freshly killed rodent, just remember, it could be a LOT weirder.
1. Potato, Potahto
“Threw a ball, she came back with a potato. She’s a retriever, not a genius.”
2. Good dogs fetch your slippers. GREAT dogs fetch you other people’s money.
“We’ve just got home and Charlie’s brought me a tenner, which one of the kids must have dropped in the front room.”
3. The Giver
“My girlfriend’s Golden HAS to bring a gift to anyone who comes to the door. If she can’t find a toy, she’ll grab her whole bed and drag it across the house or pick up the shoe you just took off and give it back to you.”
4. We all have off days.
“My sister’s cat brought in another ‘dead’ bird. Or so they thought.”
5. Not-So-Secret Admirer

6. Snake Eyes
“Not even a year old and my giant kitty is bringing me gifts. I’m a lucky mom.”
7. This is what happens when you let the dishes pile up.
“Our cat won’t stop bringing home sponges!”
8. The Con Artist
“Meet Henry. He presents me with this toy mouse every morning claiming a successful nights work.”
9. Roll Initiative!
“My mighty hunter brought me her trophy, aka one of my D&D characters.”
10. His bite is worse than his bark.
“An elderly couple owned this house before me, and I think maybe [the dentures] were theirs. They may have changed their dentures and buried this one in the backyard. There’s no other explanation, because I know it’s not ours.”
11. Sausage Fest
“He stole this from an unknown neighbor’s BBQ.”
“Friend is a new mom, today her dog brought her this.”
13. Lips for days
“My niece was playing with Mr. Potato head. My dog wanted to play fetch, so he brought me what he found.”
14. Happy Birthday!
“My wife and I started feeding a stay cat. He likes to bring us presents, normally a dead mouse or a chicken bone. Today he showed up with this. No idea where he got it.”
15. Oh My
“This guy broke broke into my dorm room a couple of months ago. I have been feeding him a lot, taking care. He is still a stray cat since we can’t own pets, but he just visits often. And today he brought me this FREAKING SQUISHY WILLY.”
