It’s easy to take our modern lives and modern conveniences for granted. Everyday objects are just that–things we use every day without having to really think about it. But even the most seemingly mundane things can actually be remarkably complex and even weird, if you cut them in half.
There’s even a book on this subject, appropriately titled Cut in Half: The Hidden World of Everyday Objects. Like lots of great ideas, it’s simple. Two guys cut a bunch of stuff in half, took pictures of the results, and what they found is way cooler than you might think.
Here are 15 objects that have been cut in half, all in the interest of blowing our minds.
1. A Canon photocopier.
2. Bullets.
3. A camera zoom lens.
4. A baseball.
5. An armchair.
6.
7. A tube of Colgate toothpaste.
8. A fire hydrant.
9. Fireworks.
10. Hockey (left) and football (right) helmets.
11. A grenade.
12. A cargo ship.
13. A half-shorn sheep. (Technically not cut in half, but we’re trying to keep things PG.)
14. A piñata.
15. A Zippo lighter.
