Food and clothes can both be brightly colored and pleasing to the eye, so it makes sense someone would find a way to bring them both together. That’s the genesis of Wardrobe Snacks, a photography collaboration between set and prop stylist Michelle Maguire and photographer Kelsey McClellan. For the project, the pair matched various food items with various articles of clothing, especially mid-2oth century monochrome.
The two were inspired by the way people eat food when they’re not seated at a dinner table. Like Maguire’s stepfather, “Rests his sandwich on his thigh (hell with a plate!) in between bites while he blasts an action movie on his TV.” Or a subway rider reaching into a backpack or bag for a snack. Or someone taking a lunch break in a park with a sandwich spread out on their lap. Eating on the go can be clumsy and awkward, but we all make it work.
Wardrobe Snacks will definitely help you appreciate all the surprising places a certain color can show up in our world, and there’s definitely something satisfying about a food-clothing combo that just nails it.
I would personally love to find some food-clothing combos of my own, but I’m having trouble matching a food with a pair of basketball shorts that has only been worn for blogging.
