We might be barreling full-speed towards winter right now, so shorts might be the furthest thing from your mind, but here’s a garment that actually sort of works for any season: shorts made out of crocheted blankets.

Schuyler Ellers is the mastermind behind Lord von Schmitt, an Etsy store where he offers his unique creations. According to Ellers’s store description, it all starts with finding a vintage Afghan blanket. “Afghan blankets are original pieces of folk art, hand made by artisans across America since the 1960’s and well before,” he said in an interview with Bored Panda. “With scissors and a sewing machine I transform vintage crochets into wearable sculpture!”

Wearing a blanket as a pair of pants might seem strange on its face, but Ellers says the pants are both funky, (in the positive sense of the word!), and comfortable. He wears them to parties and to bed. They might even be suitable for

The idea came to Ellers when he was learning how to knit, and he found it helped him make more pairs of pants efficiently. “Recycling vintage crochets allowed me to create crochet garments with a speed which I had never imagined. It was like I jumped a level in a video game.”
