I still remember the last movie I saw in the theater before a pandemic took over the world and we weren’t allowed to do anything in large groups anymore.
It was July 2019 and I went to see Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I try to see all of his movies on the big screen and there was barely anyone in the theater so it was a good time…and the concession stand wasn’t half bad, either.
I have a lot of great memories of going to the theater because I used to go to the movies A LOT when I was younger. Let’s hope that we can get back to doing that fun activity very soon!
Enjoy these tweets from people talking about their favorite experiences at the movies.
1. What a cool experience!
I’d love to see a movie there.
One that stands out for me: visiting Hollywood for the first time in May 2017 and seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Excellent movie and phenomenal experience.

2. Hahaha. Wow.
That was a good flick.
When Anne Hathaway takes her top off in Brokeback Mountain a woman behind me gasped and exclaimed “Princess Diaries!” The whole theater laughed. That was a very memorable movie theater experience.

3. Want some peaches.
What a weird time to say that…
I watched Call Me By Your Name sitting next to my mother. During the peach scene, THAT peach scene, my mom suddenly remembers something and leans over and whispers in my ear “we have white peach talenti in the freezer when we get home”

4. Pan’s Labyrinth.
“It was incredible…”
I was 17 and had never seen a foreign language or R-rated horror film before (I know). Anyway went to the local arthouse for PAN’S LABYRINTH. The theater was totally empty. It was just me, alone in the dark with a 32 ounce Mr. Pibb and the pale man. It was incredible.

5. Because I got high.
What movie is this?
Got supes high to watch 2001 Space Odyssey at the Paramount in Austin.
Me and my buddies thought we fecked up: “Are we in a caveman movie?”— Yârs Trüly (@AlbinoRhino777) June 27, 2020
6. The submarine special.
Goes good with a Gosling movie.
Sneaking a full submarine sandwich to watch the movie Drive alone.
I then did that with Place Beyond the Pines and La La Land.
Basically if it’s a Ryan Gosling movie, I’m going alone, and I’m bringing a sub sandwich.

7. I remember this one.
The Ring!
This. The whole theatre audibly gasped, but the men next to me screamed and leapt fully out of their seats. pic.twitter.com/KZvAKTxUdS

8. Dad brought the house down.
Way to go!
Waiting to see the first X-Men movie with my brother and dad. Someone next to us asked my dad if he knew the X-Men. He said “Yeah, the one with atomic eyes and the one with the tungsten claws.” The whole section erupted in laughter. He was so proud.

9. This is disgusting.
What a nice snack!
I was 13 and my friend’s mom picked me up to drop us off at a movie. My mom said “you are NOT eating popcorn for dinner” and gave me tilapia in Tupperware. I opened it in the dark theater and it STANK of fish. “What’s that smell” someone yelled. “Yeah what is that” I also yelled https://t.co/NLQrS7WUvU

10. It was FUN.
Good times!
Either seeing Portrait of a Lady on Fire because I was just enthralled, OR seeing Black Panther because in my very white city, we had a predominantly Black crowd for opening night and it was FUN.

11. That’s awesome!
Passing it down to your kids.
When I took my kids to see the Star Wars prequels and saw the same wonder in their eyes that I had when I saw the original in 1977.

12. Pure movie magic.
I love a good movie opening.
Dark Knight. The opening scene was pure movie magic. It raised the standard of what a super hero movie could be. By the end of that 5 min scene, my mouth was on the ground. pic.twitter.com/VKs5qwShgb
