KFC Only Follows 11 People On Twitter, But The Reason Is Finger Licking Good

Typically, a corporate Twitter account serves up a pretty dull stream of content, so it’s always a delight when one manages to be funny. But this time, KFC’s Twitter account managed to go beyond merely “funny” with a top-notch joke that’s been hiding in plain sight.

As originally noticed by Twitter user @edgette22, KFC only follows 11 other Twitter accounts. Which by itself wouldn’t be remarkable–plenty of corporate accounts follow few or even no other accounts at all. It’s the 11 particular followers that makes this amazing. Take a look:

In case you were a desert hermit for all of the 1990’s, the first five people KFC follows, (Geri Horner, Melanie Brown, Emma Burton, Melanie C, and Victoria Beckham), are the five members of British pop group The Spice Girls. The remaining are all six guys named “Herb.” For those keeping score at home, that’s 11 “Herbs and Spices.” Just like KFC’s famously secret recipe that contains…11 herbs and spices.

Well done, KFC Twitter.

Once the story broke, people of Twitter showed their appreciation.

We don’t know who the comedic mastermind is behind this joke. We don’t know how long it’s been on KFC’s Twitter just waiting to be discovered. We don’t even know why @edgette22 was perusing the Twitter pages of fast food corporations. (My guess? It’s Friday.) All we know is, one anonymous genius is getting the recognition they deserve.
