It takes some serious cojones to stand up at someone’s wedding and object to their everlasting union.
But I guess if you’re that upset about two people getting married for one reason or another, you gotta do what you gotta do.
A man named Elan Gale threw this question out into the Twitterverse…
Has anybody ever actually (in person) witnessed somebody object during a wedding ceremony? I would very much like the hear these stories

And wouldn’t you know it? We got some very good stories out of it.
Let’s take a look.
1. Uh oh…
yes. the bride’s sister objected by saying she was pregnant…. by the groom. a year later the groom married said sister.

2. Wish this was on video.
Yes. It was quite literally In The backwoods of MT. The brides ex was said to be hiding out in the Woods. The bride was about two hours late. One of the grooms brothers was officiating. The other brother objected and the groom punched him.

3. Good move…
We had that taken out of our wedding because we were very afraid that one of our friends would object. Considering he professed his love to me at the reception, it was a good move.

4. The hired help.
I was once at a wedding where friends so strongly objected shortly before the wedding took place that the bride HIRED girls to replace her bridesmaids. Paid cash, hired based on the dress size, and who would look best in pictures. In a shock to no one, marriage didn’t last.

5. A light-hearted moment.
Mom was a bridesmaid in my aunts wedding. Mom gave dad candy for my sister (2yo) IF she was being bad. Dad made mistake of giving her candy the whole ceremony, during the silence of “does anyone object” my sister loudly said “more candy daddy!” Mom mortified, everyone laughed ?

6. Messed up…
As the chapel doors opened at my first wedding my dad said, “If you don’t want to go through with this, I’ll kick him out and we can have one hell of a party without him”. I insisted I wanted to marry him. As we danced our first dance I knew I had messed up. Divorced in 2 years.

7. I have a question…
Not exactly. But right before the ceremony one of my dad’s brothers privately asked my mom if she wanted to be with him instead.

8. Wow. That is crazy.
Yes, it’s a long story but when the priest got to that part at my uncle’s wedding all 200 guests coughed (you know the cough I’m talking about) at the same time. Unplanned and unironically!

9. Damn kids.
Well, in my mom’s wedding, my cousins (5 & 4 years old, all boys) screamed : Auntie, don’t marry him.. ????

10. Party time!
I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and the best man objected because he and the groom were having an affair. Bride was shocked but we all attended the reception (minus groom and best man) and had one big ass party!!

11. That’s all, folks!
The drunk brother of the groom.. who then proceeded to call the bride by the grooms ex girlfriend’s name. That’s all folks.

I have personally never seen anything like this before at a wedding.
How about you?
If you’ve witnessed an objection like this, please tell us the story in the comments!
We’re looking forward to it!
