It’s a moment every parent experiences: one day, after years of taking your child to school, suddenly your child doesn’t want to be seen with you. It’s a difficult moment only made easier by the fact that it happens to everyone. If you’re a parent, you can respond in one of two ways. You can respect your child’s wishes and make yourself scarce. Or, you can double down and actively try to embarrass your child.
And if you’re a “double down” type of parent, father Dale Price is your patron saint.
His son Rain was beginning his sophomore year of high school, and he was sick of Dad waving him goodbye as he boarded the school bus each morning. Rain asked his mom, Rochelle, to intervene. But Dale overheard, and the next morning, he said goodbye dressed like a bride on her wedding day.
Rain was shocked and embarrassed, but that didn’t stop Dale. For the next 170 school days, Dale bid Rain adieu in a different costume. He only spent $50 on costumes for the whole year, borrowing from friends and neighbors to complete many of the outfits. Eventually, Rochelle started a blog called Wave at the Bus, where Dale’s antics went viral.
After Rain graduated from high school he went to Liberia to be a missionary. Dale’s daily outfits came to an end, but he does keep updating the blog. The project might be over, but the photos live on. Scroll down and check them out! (via Bored Panda.)
