If we were to make a list of “Things That Do Not Need A Sleek Reboot,” mullets would be somewhere between Battlefield Earth and herpes. But here we are.

When a customer with long, white-blonde locks came to London’s Salon Sloane, owner and hair stylist John Vial was inspired to do something that nobody had ever done with hair before. This new unnamed haircut was so complex, Vial needed to take four separate photos to capture all the nooks and crannies!

In fact, I would say the word “mullet” doesn’t even do this new ‘do justice, because it’s really more like three haircuts in one–a mullet, a wedge, and a bowl cut.

“It’s a haircut within a haircut and a shape within a shape,” Vial told Bustle. “The idea was that it would look three-dimensional and aerodynamic.” Which is a great quality to have in, say, a luge helmet. But hair itself? That’s a new one to me.

The photos of the hairstyle have since gone viral, and reactions have been mostly positive, with a dose of skepticism mixed in.

But not everyone is supposed to get it, Vial says. “It’s not meant to be commercial. It’s meant to push the boundaries.”

Mission accomplished. And by the year 3,000, we’ll all have hair like this.
