Artist Reimagines Your Favorite Superheroes As Senior Citizens

If you want to enjoy a lengthy, peaceful retirement, don’t become a superhero. Assuming you’ll even survive into your golden years, most likely you’ll be too haunted by the memories of people you couldn’t save to enjoy an afternoon of shuffleboard.

But what if superheroes could retire? That’s the gist behind Pensioners, a series of illustrations by Russian artist Lesya Guseva that imagines what our favorite superheroes would look like in retirement.

“This series of illustrations was an accident,” Guseva told A Plus. Guseva typically looks to pop culture for inspiration, but participating in an art competition is what challenged her to reimagine our caped and Spandexed protectors as retirees. She hopes Pensioners will “Bring a smile to people and lift them up.”

It will definitely do that! Thanks to Bored Panda, below you can check out some of your favorite characters from the Marvel and DC universes, as well as a few Disney characters. And if this gets big enough, maybe we’ll finally get that superheroes/Golden Girls mashup show we’ve all been waiting for.
