The tragic shooting d**th of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust in October 2021 has caused quite a stir in Hollywood.

Actor Alec Baldwin was holding a gun that discharged on the New Mexico set of the film, which resulted in the d**th of Hutchins and the injuring of the film’s director, Joel Souza.

But Souza and Baldwin are determined to press on and finish the film, even though Baldwin is now facing charges stemming from the incident.

Souza said, “Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team joining former cast and crew are committed to completing what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. It is a privilege to see this through on her behalf.”

In January 2023, prosecutors in New Mexico announced involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer. If convicted, Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison.

Baldwin and the Rust crew will resume filming sometime this spring in Montana. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and assistant director Dave Halls will not be part of the resumed production. Halls signed a plea deal related to the charge of negligent use of a d**dly weapon regarding the incident in New Mexico.
