A Woman Shattered a Jeff Koons Balloon Dog Sculpture Worth Over $40k

Now that is one costly mistake!

And, while she is still responsible, I’m willing to bet that the woman responsible for this mishap feels pretty terrible about the whole thing…

But still, you gotta own up when you do something like this!

Here’s the story: Jeff Koons is a popular artist and his works have been shown all over the world. He’s well-known for his balloon dog sculptures and one of them sold for an incredible $58.4 million in 2013.

At a recent contemporary art fair in Miami, a visitor tapped a balloon dog sculpture that was worth $42,000 and it fell to the ground and shattered to pieces.

A Miami artist named Stephen Gamson said he thought the breaking of the balloon dog sculpture was a part of a performance until he realized it was a terrible accident. He said, “When this thing fell to the ground, it was like how a car accident draws a huge crowd on the highway.”

Cédric Boero, the district manager of the gallery that was managing the event, said, “Of course, it is heartbreaking to see such an iconic piece destroyed.”

The piece by Koons was made of porcelain and measured 40 x 48 x 16. There are 799 editions of the balloon dog sculpture by Koons and they vary in size.
