Almost nobody looks amazing in their prom photo. At prom, most of us were still neck-deep in our gawky teenager years. So our prom photos make us look like a deer caught in the headlights just after they raided their parent’s closet for nice clothes.

Besides the “not being comfortable in our own skin” part, prom is fraught for many reasons. It’s hyped up as “night you’ll remember for the rest of your life,” and that just adds pressure. There’s the jockeying for social status that’s typical in high school, but cranked up to 11. On top of all THAT, depending on who you go with, prom is also a date. How did we even survive that night?!

When you add it all up, prom is just an awkward experience all around–and that’s true even for celebrities. When you look at their old prom photos it’s clear that they were once dorky, insecure teenagers, just like we were.

Well, some of them were anyway. With other celebrities, it’s obvious that they were just born suave and beautiful and perfect, and they deserve every dollar they are paid to be looked at every day.
