I thought my parents were really strict when I was growing up, but I guess I really didn’t have it TOO bad when I look back on it now.
In high school, they were pretty lenient about what I did in my free time as long as I got good grades, had a job, and didn’t get into any trouble with drugs or alcohol.
So I pretty much had the freedom to roam around the Kansas City metro area (even on school nights) as long as I kept up my part of the bargain. Hey, it wasn’t a bad deal!
People took to Twitter to talk about the weird and strict rules they had to follow when they were growing up.
Let’s see what they had to say.
1. Jesus is not a fan of shorts.
Still unclear about this one…

2. That’s crazy.
Kids can’t even think 15 minutes into the future!
If there was something I wanted to go do with friends, I had to give 24 hours notice for them to “think about it” and “talk it over.” Otherwise it was a blanket “No.”

3. No Barney!
That evil purple monster!
Barney was magic, magic is evil, Barney = evil so no watching Barney.

4. Very strange…
No Disney? Okay…
I wasn’t allowed to watch Disney movies or say butt at my dads.

5. Off to bed you go.
But, only you…
I had a bedtime of 9:30 on school nights all through high school.
When I left for college and my brother entered high school, suddenly that bedtime wasn’t a thing, so basically the 9:30 bedtime only applied to me.
They justified it by saying I got up earlier to fix my hair.

6. Okay, Boomer…
Midnight’s not a bad high school curfew, though.
Yes child of strict parents here. My curfew in HS was:
9pm for Freshman
10pm for Sophomore
11pm for Junior
12pm for SeniorMy Dad would say “nothing good is going on after midnight”
Okay Boomer tell that to ERIC CLAPTON. ?— hollsballs♎ (@hollsiemo) June 30, 2020
7. No nicknames!
This house sounds like a lot of fun.
I couldn’t watch Captain Planet. God created the Earth and it wouldn’t be destroyed by humans.
Had to be called by my God-given name. No nicknames.
No eating breakfast before everyone gets up.
Couldn’t say fart. Had to use fluff or whisper.

8. No advertising.
Your parents sound a little paranoid.
I could have action figures but if they came with guns, all those went into the trash. Absolutely no t-shirts with any kind of print on them or name brand shoes because “I won’t allow you to be a walking billboard.”

9. Now you can’t see!
That doesn’t seem very productive.
my parents would take away my contacts as a punishment.

10. Military rules.
You’ll thank them later. Maybe…
Turn on the shower and get wet. Turn off the water to soap up and scrub. Turn the water on again to rinse. NEVER run the water constantly in the shower. Apparently this is a “Navy” shower due to short supply of fresh water on ships. I was thus well prepared for life at sea.

11. Bad words.
Not in this house!
I wouldn’t say mine were strict, but they were/are very religious. We couldn’t say “fart” or even “butt.” It was “toot” and “pass gas.”

12. Only three shows a week?
I don’t like the sound of this…
Only 3 tv shows a week for me and my brother. Unfortunately it took us 2 years to notice that it could mean 6 programmes so as we both picked Blue Peter and Swap Shop our mum laughed quietly at us until we sharpened up a little.
— Tina2020 (@Tina20209) June 30, 2020
13. Don’t leave Dad out.
You don’t want to bum him out.
We weren’t allowed to sing at the dinner table or use sign language because my dad was the only one who couldn’t sign and he couldn’t stand being left out
— Shenanigans (@Shenanigans_luv) June 30, 2020
14. NO FUN.
This whole thing sounds very weird.
No TV because it “looked too fun”. Also no going to church under any circumstances.
Like most classic high school bad boys, I snuck out of the house to go to church ?.— Koala_Walla (@ItsKoalaTeaTime) June 30, 2020
