Lots of artists have dogs, and it’s not unusual for those dogs to serve as inspiration for their owners’ art. Case in point: Paris-based fashion photographer Vincent Flouret, who recreated some of Madonna’s classic images–with his dog Max as the star.

The project started a few years ago when Vincent was volunteering with City Shelters, L.A., where he was taking studio portraits of dogs to help with their adoptions. As a fashion photographer, Vincent was already used to making the world’s models look glamorous. But while volunteering, he found that dogs were just as compelling a photography subject. He decided to combine his newfound love of dog photography with another of his loves: Madonna.

“She’s a dreamer, a believer, and a doer, and I definitely identify with that. And, of course, her music has been a big part of my life,” Vincent told A Plus, when asked to explain why he chose Madonna for inspiration.

Together, Vincent and Max created “Maxdonna,” a series in which the pair reproduce some of the most iconic images from Madonna’s career, from her music videos to her album covers and more.

Max has proven to be an adept model, but he’s still a dog. Vincent’s biggest challenge was getting Max not play with his costumes and props.

“Everything is like a game for him,” Vincent told Bored Panda. “If he needs a hat for a picture, I buy it weeks before and we play with it like if it’s one of his pet toys.  And so, it’s ‘normal’ and fun for him when we shoot for real weeks later.”

The result is a hit for fans of dogs and Madonna alike. Even better, all the money Vincent makes from Maxdonna will be donated to Madonna’s charity, Raising Malawi, which improves the lives of children and orphans in Malawi.
